Alpha

What is Alpha?

  • The Alpha Course is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith.
  • It's relaxed, non-threatening, low-key, friendly and fun.
  • There is a meal together at the beginning of each session which gives you an opportunity to get to know other course members.
  • Listen, learn, discuss and discover. And ask anything. Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile.
  • And it's supported by all the main Christian denominations.
  • What's Involved?
The Alpha course consists of a series of talks looking into topics such as 'Who is Jesus?' and 'Why and how do I pray?' After each talk we divide into small groups for a time of dicussion.

    Who is Alpha for?
    Alpha is for everyone, especially:
    Those wanting to investigate Christianity
    New Christians
    Newcomers to the church
Those who want to brush up on the basics

    When is the next Course?
We started a course in February and the format is that it is in the evening at the Chapel. We have substantial snacks each evening as well as the talk and discussions. We have either a day or a weekend away after Week 6 to discuss the Holy Spirit in more depth.

For more information or if you are interested in coming along to a course, please e-mail course organiser Buddy Owen at buddy.owen@hoylakechapel.org.uk.

The course covers many topics including:

    • Week 1 - Who is Jesus?
    • Week 2 - Why did Jesus Die?
    • Week 3 - How can we have Faith?
    • Week 4 - Why and How do I Pray?
    • Week 5 - Why and How should I read the Bible?
    • Week 6 - How does God guide us?
    • Week 7 - How can I resist Evil?
